I am proud to have lived in New York City for nearly two decades and am horribly embarrassed that I have never been to a Yankees game...until last night. It was doubly special because I got to take the 10-year-old to his first Yankees game. I'm not a huge baseball fan, but I do like going to games and I like the Yanks. Cavan, however, is a HUGE baseball fan and each player in pinstripes is a hero. It was a great moment in step-papatude to share the experience with him and through his eyes.
The kid knew the game and had strong opinions about every single player. He was absolutely tweaking that he got to see Jeter back at short stop. And then there was the incredibly fruitful fourth inning when Ichiro Suzuki whacked a fast and low dinger for the night's first homer and then a few minutes later Nick Swisher sent another one way over the fence for a grand slam that had the house rocking. We got a little worried when the Blue Jays picked up steam later in the game, but in the end, the Yankees walked away with a 10-7 victory and Cavan and I walked away with a wonderful memory and a fantastic night on the town.The post Yankees.
